The Black Princesses are just one hurdle away from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after overcoming a stubborn South African side in the penultimate qualifying round.
Ghana’s U-20 women booked their place in the final round with a 3-2 aggregate victory, showing resilience across two tightly contested fixtures. After being held to a 2-2 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Princesses travelled to Johannesburg where they ground out a crucial 1-0 win to seal progression.
Head coach Charles Simpson believes the hard-fought triumph reflects the team’s growing maturity and determination to return to the global stage.
“Our objective is clear — we want to go to the World Cup,” Simpson said after the decisive win. “South Africa proved to be a tough opponent, so we’re delighted to have gone past them.”
With Uganda standing between Ghana and qualification, attention now shifts to fine-tuning preparations for the final round. The decisive ties are scheduled to be played over two legs between May 1 and May 10, 2026.
Victory over Uganda would secure Ghana a ticket to the tournament in Poland, as the Princesses continue their quest to reassert themselves among the world’s elite at youth level.
