Two out of six individuals have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly causing unlawful damage to a fence wall valued at GH¢1,541,368, belonging to Babbel Limited, a private company.

All six individuals face charges of conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful property damage.

The accused are Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei, a farmer; Ali Ibrahim, a businessman; Joseph Adjei, an auto sprayer; Nii Adjei Akpor I, a businessman; Alhassan Hafiz; and Daniel Tetteh.

Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei faces an additional charge of abetment of crime.

Appearing before the court presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei and Ali Ibrahim denied the charges, while the remaining four accused were absent.

The court granted bail to the two present accused, set at GHC800,000 each, with one surety each.

The court directed the prosecution to regularise its processes concerning the charges.

The case was adjourned to July 7, 2025.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is Peter Asare, Site Manager of Babbel Company Limited.

ASP Frimpong said in 2012, Babbel acquired a 100-acre parcel of land at Addoteiman, demarcated for residential development.

A wall and security post were constructed, painted, and placed under security surveillance.

He said Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei, the first accused, had laid claim to the land and initiated a court case at the Madina District Court against land guards.

The complainant later joined the case as an interested party, which remains pending.

Despite the pending litigation, on June 5, 2024, Adjei, accompanied by land guards, allegedly damaged the fenced wall and security post.

The incident was reported to the police, leading to Adjei’s arrest and subsequent bail.

On October 19, 2024, Adjei allegedly conspired with Ali Ibrahim, Joseph Adjei, and Nii Adjei Akpor I, to cause further damage to the wall.

The prosecution further alleged that Adjei conspired with Alhassan Hafiz and Daniel Tetteh, both payloader operators, to destroy additional sections of the wall.

Following a report to Police Headquarters, a Police Patrol Team arrested the accused persons.

The Police Crime Scene Management Unit and Architectural and Engineering Services Limited were deployed to assess the extent of damage.

“The reports of the Crime Scene Management and Architectural and Engineering Services submitted an estimate valuing the damages at GHC1,541,368.50,” the prosecution stated.
