TUC declares indefinite strike, sends a strong warning on pension funds and debt exchange programme. Organized labour have kicked against every attempt by the government to touch pension funds.

The Strike takes effect on December 27th, 2022 and will continue across the nation until the government comes out to clearly indicate what it intends not to do with the pension funds of workers. Speaking at the press conference, Dr Yaw Baah indicated that from 27th December all workers in Ghana will embark on the strike since the government has failed to consider their request that pension funds should be totally exempted from the debt exchange programme.

“What it means is that all workers of Ghana should stay at home from 27th December. Don’t go to work, stay at home, and we will stay at home until we hear publicly that all pension funds have been exempted.” Dr Yaw Baah said.

The TUC has given the government up to the end of 26th December to take a decision on the matter.

The strike will be in force until the government exempt pension funds from the planned debt exchange programme according to the Secretary General of TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, who announced the industrial action at a press conference in Accra today.

Labour unions present at the press conference included the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the Ghana Medical Association, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
