Madam Gloria Osei, Senior Nursing officer Tema Polyclinic and Ebenezer Donkor, Community Health Nurse in an interview  on Plan  Fm’s Apomudenfie  hosted by Akua Konadu Okontie educated Ghanaians on Tuberculosis.

They explained tuberculosis as a potentially serious infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs.

They revealed that the bacteria causes the spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

They said that it is partly preventable by vaccine, treatable by a medical professional, spreads by airborne droplets, requires a medical diagnosis, lab tests or imaging always required and medium-term: resolves within months.

They also said that most people infected with the bacteria that causes tuberculosis don’t have symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they usually include a cough (sometimes blood-tinged), weight loss, night sweats and fever.

They added that tuberculosis can be treated with antibiotics but treatment isn’t always required for those without symptoms. Patients with active symptoms will require a long course of treatment involving multiple antibiotics.
