The Ministry of Roads and Highways has disclosed that the trailer driver responsible for crashing into the North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Footbridge will fully fund the estimated GH¢2.5 million needed to repair the damaged structure.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Monday, February 16, Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Nasir Ahmed Yartey, said the suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.
“The issue has come to our attention, and the culprit has been apprehended. The police are in full control, and we are dealing with it,” he stated.

According to him, the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority conducted an emergency technical inspection and assessment of the bridge following the incident, with the assessment revealing a significant localised structural damage caused by the impact of the trailer.

“The estimate for the repair of the bridge has been put at around GH¢2.5 million, and the culprit is going to fully fund the repair works. We are going to ensure that this is done,” he added.

The repair, he stated, will take approximately six days to complete once a work programme is rolled out, assuring the Ministry’s commitment to expedite the process to restore the bridge to safe use as soon as possible.
The North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Footbridge, located along the highway in the Greater Accra Region, developed visible cracks after a trailer reportedly rammed into it. Sections of the structure have since shifted, with some fittings damaged.

Pedestrians who rely on the bridge have expressed fear over its current condition, saying they feel unsafe using it. Many are calling for swift action to prevent a potential tragedy while repair works are undertaken.
