Tragedy at Mpasatia: 50-Year-Old Woman Dies In Galamsey Pit Collapse

Illegal Chinese miners storm Jimira Forest Reserve with over 60  excavators

A 50-year-old female illegal miner died after she fell into an abandoned mining pit by accident.

The regrettable incident is said to have occurred on July 29, 2025, at approximately 9 a.m. at Mpasatia, in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, identified as Auntie Akos, was working on her daily illegal mining activities where she got trapped in a pit.

For a while, she remained confined beneath the hole until some miners found her.

She was rescued by some illegal miners and rushed to Frimpong Boateng Clinic at Toase but was pronounced dead on arrival by the Doctors at the hospital.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Toase mortuary for preservation, awaiting autopsy.
