Sampson Addae, Deputy General Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and an energy expert, has praised Kingsley Kwame Awuah-Darko’s leadership as a benchmark for state institutions.
Speaking on the Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show with host Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi, Addae cited Awuah-Darko’s management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) as a notable success story.
Under Awuah-Darko’s leadership, TOR reportedly posted a profit of $800,000 after seven consecutive years of losses.
Addae emphasized that effective management can transform state institutions, making them both profitable and efficient. He noted, “Until Awuah-Darko profitably managed TOR, it was presumed no Ghanaian could ever manage state institutions successfully.”
He also urged the government to adopt a more hands-off approach, warning that “orders from above” can hinder the growth of state-owned enterprises.
This perspective from a seasoned energy expert like Sampson Addae—who has previously spoken on issues such as fuel price fluctuations—adds weight to the ongoing conversation about the management of state institutions.
