British actor Micheal Ward, widely recognized for his role as Jamie in the acclaimed Netflix crime drama Top Boy, has been found not guilty of all rape and sexual assault charges following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London.

The 28-year-old actor had faced five charges, including two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault, in relation to allegations made by a woman over an incident said to have occurred in January 2023.

According to court proceedings, the complainant alleged that the incident took place after she and Ward met during a New Year’s celebration.

Throughout the trial, Ward firmly denied all the allegations brought against him, maintaining that the sexual encounter between the two was entirely consensual.

His legal team argued that the evidence presented did not support the prosecution’s claims and challenged key aspects of the case during the proceedings.

After hearing testimony from both the prosecution and the defence, the jury deliberated before returning unanimous not guilty verdicts on all five charges, clearing the actor of every allegation.

Reports from the courtroom indicated that Ward became visibly emotional as the verdicts were read, bringing an end to a legal process that had lasted for several years.

Following the ruling, the actor expressed gratitude to the jury for carefully considering the evidence presented throughout the trial.

He also thanked his legal representatives, family members, friends, and supporters who stood by him during what he described as an extremely difficult period in his life.

Ward acknowledged the seriousness of allegations involving sexual violence and emphasized the importance of ensuring that such claims are handled with care, fairness, and respect for the legal process.

He said he now looks forward to rebuilding his life and focusing once again on his acting career after enduring years of uncertainty while the case remained before the courts.

Micheal Ward has become one of Britain’s most respected young actors, earning widespread recognition for his performances across television and film.

He rose to international prominence through his portrayal of Jamie in Top Boy, a role that received widespread critical acclaim and introduced him to audiences around the world.

In addition to Top Boy, Ward has appeared in several successful productions, including Blue Story, Small Axe, Empire of Light, The Book of Clarence, and Eddington.

His performances have earned him numerous accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020. He has also received further BAFTA nominations for his contributions to British cinema and television.

The conclusion of the trial marks the end of one of the most closely watched legal cases involving a British actor in recent years.

The verdict also underscores the principle that criminal cases are determined based on the evidence presented before the court, with defendants presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

With the legal proceedings now concluded, Ward is expected to resume his professional career as he moves forward following the acquittal.

The case attracted significant public attention both in the United Kingdom and internationally, reflecting the actor’s prominence within the entertainment industry and the broader public interest surrounding high-profile legal proceedings.
