This is great news – Ablakwa welcomes defamation suits from Freddie Blay and son

Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Nine-step Approach To Raise GHS6.9bn Without E-levy

The lawsuits arise from Mr. Ablakwa’s alleged defamatory publications, accusing the Blays of being involved in the theft of state property

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has declared his readiness to face two defamation lawsuits filed against him by former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Freddie Blay and his son, Kwame Blay.

The lawsuits arise from Mr. Ablakwa’s alleged defamatory publications, accusing the Blays of being involved in the theft of state property.

While Kwame Blay’s lawsuit specifically targets Mr. Ablakwa, the former NPP Chairman’s suit also includes Media General and journalist Johnnie Hughes as defendants.

In his suit, son of the former NPP Chairman stressed his distinct identity from his brother Kwaw and clarified his non-involvement with the Polo Beach Club or any related entities.

He stated: “I have never interacted with Loic Devos Jnr, who is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Press Xpress, a business linked to my brother.”

Kwame Blay claims that Mr. Ablakwa’s allegations of him stealing state land and participating in a scheme to cheat Loic Devos Jnr are entirely baseless and have significantly harmed his business and reputation.

The former NPP Chairman alleges that Mr. Ablakwa’s actions were motivated by malice, particularly given the proximity to elections, with the intent to damage his hard-earned reputation.

He asserts that the claims about his sons and family are entirely false and accuses Media General and Johnnie Hughes of publishing untruths aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Responding to the lawsuits in a Facebook post, on Monday, 1 July 2024, Mr. Ablakwa welcomed the legal challenge, stating: “Justice does not always belong to those who are first to seek refuge in the court.”

He praised Freddie Blay for choosing to take the matter to court, noting: “They say better late than never – even though I am yet to be served, this is great news after many weeks of countless threats.”

Mr. Ablakwa remained defiant, adding: “No matter the intimidation theatrics, State capture shall surely be defeated.”
