Nana Ohene Ntow, an advisor to independent presidential aspirant, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has observed that there is a disconnect between the economic figures being churned out by Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam and what the ordinary Ghanaians are feeling in their pockets.
He asked how the economic figures are reducing poverty. Contributing to a discussion on the mid-year budget review presentation, Nana Ohene Ntow, also a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said
“I look at the numbers and check the prices in town and I ask what do they (numbers) mean to the majority of Ghanaians, there is a huge disconnect”. Is it reducing poverty ? I don’t see that, according to IMF/World Bank statistics in Ghana, poverty is increasing so if we are growing our GDP and the exchange rate depreciation is just slowing down and the government is telling us that things are improving, there is a very big disconnect “.
Reacting to this on Plan B Fm’s ‘Nkosuonsem’ show hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi on Monday, 29th July 2024, a Communications team member of Movement for Change for Tema, Mr. Felix Kwasi Anan emphatically stated that, all the growth, GDP and economic improvement is just a paper work not reality.
“Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP government is like someone bragging to be a mechanic who doesn’t even know how to fix tyres. They are like electrical engineer who can’t fix electric bulb. Thirty-two years governance of NPP/NDC has only seen paper work not reality and Ghanaians must see all these and vote for competent Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen” he indicated.
