‘They Slept With Her Eight Times’ – Four Men In Trouble For Allegedly Raping A Church Girl At Wamfie
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sakinatu Amponsah, a 25-year-old Church singer of Wamfie Presbyterian Church is at the Sunyani Regional Hospital fighting for her life after she was found unconscious on 31 December 2021. Sekina as she is commonly called is facing been paralysed after she was raped by four men on the night of 31 December 2021.

The suspected four men; Kwame Abontie, Debrah Prince, Johnson Lamley and Yaw Appiagye were arrested last night after police investigations lead to their involvement in the crime. The four tried fleeing when they saw the police, but the police team from Wamfie Police Station with the help of warning shots, stopped the suspects before they could flee.

All four suspects are at the Wamfie Police Station and are scheduled for a court appearance later this week. The police are certain by Wednesday 5 January 2022, they would have had full custody of the four men.

Inspector Daniel Acheampong, the lead officer explained that the case of the four suspects is a serious one and bail will not be considered or granted by them. We will not grant them bail and neither will we allow them to escape on bail. We are working on having a judge remand then into police custody by Wednesday since today, Monday 3 January is a holiday.

We hope by Wednesday, a sitting judge would have heard our case. Our docket and all preliminary investigation materials should be ready by Tuesday 4 January and we are of the view, a judge will consider those materials and grant as the remand, Inspector Daniel Acheampong said in the police’s willingness to have the four suspects remanded into police custody.

Case Study

Sakina, 25, was referred to the Sunyani Regional Hospital by doctors at Wamfie on 2 January 2022 when her case became critical. Sekina suffering from injured spinal injuries was raped on 31 December when she was going to church for the crossover night.

According to the police preliminary investigations, Sekina was walking down the Wamfie Methodist Primary School route at 9 PM on 31 December 2021 when the four suspects surrounded her and held her captive for over two hours. They slept with her eight times, and all the four men went two rounds each, Inspector Daniel Acheampong stated after the arrest of the four suspects.

All the suspects have denied raping the victim but investigations from the police, prove the four suspects were the ones behind the attack. Sekina will be able to give a vivid account when she is healthy to talk, but right now, our investigations and the evidence we have, points to the four suspects and that is the cause of our arrest, Inspector Daniel Acheampong hinted.

The police are working on having the four suspects arraigned before a court, and it will be there their fate will be considered whether they should be remanded into police custody or given bail.
