The Tema West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwesi Poku, has stirred controversy after alleging that there are “dogs” within the party working against its unity and electoral fortunes.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebaanosen on 16 February 2026, the outspoken chairman used the metaphor to describe individuals he claims are betraying the party’s interests while pretending to be loyal members.
According to him, such elements leak confidential information, undermine party executives, and secretly support opposition activities.
“We have people among us who behave like loyal members in public but act differently behind the scenes,” he said.
“If we do not expose these ‘dogs,’ they will destroy the party from within before the next general election.”
His remarks have since sparked intense debate within party circles and on social media. While some members are demanding evidence to support the claims, others say the warning should be taken seriously to safeguard party cohesion.
He urged party executives to call for calm and encourage members to resolve internal grievances through established structures rather than resorting to public accusations that could damage the party’s image.
Chairman Kwesi Poku said the situation reflects growing tensions within the party as it prepares for crucial internal primaries and the 2028 general elections.
He warned that unresolved infighting could weaken the party’s chances at the ballot box if not addressed promptly.
He further indicated that proper reconciliation must be initiated to prevent further escalation.
