Head Pastor of Mount Herob Victorious Church Rev. Benjamin Oppong has stated that the church has been quiet too long in demanding public accountability from it leaders in the country.
Speaking on Plan B FM late afternoon show EBAANOSEN hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Rev. Oppong stressed that, because the church and the general public don’t demand accountability from the state leaders everyone is doing what pleases them instead of the country.
“Now many people from all professions, like Doctors, Teachers, lawyers, policemen, Journalists, and businessmen and women want to join politics for their parochial interest without the nation at heart or giving proper account to the citizenry, why should it be so,” he added.
Rev. Oppong noted that because of the fear of political tagging and political witch-hunting, the church has refused to rebuke the leaders of corrupt activities and mismanaging the state by politicians.
Meanwhile, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, under the leadership of its new Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has blamed the worsening socio-economic growth of the country on corruption.
According to the moderator, all must be awakened to a new dawn of accountability to safeguard the good of the larger society.
In his maiden address at the induction service, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye reaffirmed the Church’s stand on fighting practices that derail the growth of the nation.
“The tendency of some of our fellow citizens to loot the national coffers is a matter of great public concern, and we shall not relent in speaking against any such acts, no matter who is found in the line of fire. I promise you that the PCG shall not fail to speak against these practices.”
“The rising unemployment and hopelessness in the country as a result of the global economic crisis and other factors are major security concerns, and the church will not relent in its efforts to demand accountability,” the Moderator added.
