LaTonya and LaToya Harris are every parents’ dream daughters. The Texas natives share the same DNA and in 2010, they shared the same GPA as valedictorian and salutatorian of their class. Now, they will be graduating with a master’s in clinical nutrition and doctorate in chiropractic medicine with the same honors.
People tend to want different things as they grow older, even twins, but not the Harris twins; they have been at each other’s sides shattering every glass ceiling along the way together.
Although their parents encouraged them to follow their own interests, their interests always merged from high school right up to their second masters.
“We don’t recall a time when we haven’t liked the same things. Our parents always left the decision up to us. They always wanted us to do what we wanted, and they never forced us to do anything the same,” they told Because Of Them We Can.
Although at a point they wanted to choose different schools, it was as though nature did not want them to separate. There were not many schools that offered degrees in chiropractic medicine, so they ended up in the same school.
The roommates for life went to the same college and earned their bachelor’s and master’s in sports management from the University of Texas, Austin, then on to Parker University.
“We both agree that we wouldn’t change anything about our journey because we understand that God planned it to happen exactly as it has, even if we didn’t,” the twins told the outlet.
Their proud mother shared her joy with the world on social media. Gail Harris said she and her husband could not be prouder of their daughters.
“We are honored to be their parents,” she shared.
The pair even share the same dream of running their own practice and are passionate about helping others like them by creating scholarship opportunities for minorities.
“We feel we work much better together than apart. We would love to have established our own practice in addition to a scholarship fund and mentorship program for minority doctors…We desperately want to help change the narrative of healthcare,” the Harris twins said.
Most people get lonely and down at some point in time in their lives but the 28-year-old twins have each other to lean on in such situations.
They said their efficiency at work is sharper because the famous twin telepathy is at their disposal and they bring the best out of each other.
