Teshie Council Of Elders Rejects Planned Inauguration Of Traditional Council

The Teshie Council of Elders has said that the decision by the registrar of the Greater Accra regional house of chiefs to inaugurate a Traditional Council for the area is not right as it has the tendency to create chaos and disturb the peaceful atmosphere residents of the area are currently enjoying.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Nii Nortey Tuaka II, Teshie Shipi, further noted that the reason for rejecting the inauguration of the Teshie Traditional Council is because of legal issue involving them and a man whose name is withheld who claims to be the Paramount chief for the area and added that until the matter is resolved it would not be good to have such inauguration take place.

He indicated that the council of elders got information that the Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Enoch Addo is preparing to have a Traditional Council inaugurated for the area on April 8, 2021and wondered why the registrar would do such a thing if indeed the information they got is true.

Nii Nortey Tuaka II further pointed out that the said man has not gone through the necessary rites one goes through from the kingmakers before being made a chief. He questioned the real motive of the registrar’s decision to have a Traditional Council inaugurated for Teshie. Continuing, the Teshie Shipi explained that the area’s chieftaincy matters had been assigned to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs by the then Minister Dr. Seidu Danaa for the necessary resolution of the matter around the year 2013.

According to him, a report was subsequently submitted in the year 2016 and then shortly after that, certain portions of that report were withdrawn; a situation which he explained got the Council of Elders worried and suspicious.

Nii Tuaka II noted that the so many unresolved issues surrounding the case which is currently before the Greater Accra Regional House of Chief validates their rejection of the intended inauguration.

Concluding, he, on behalf of the council appealed to the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ebenezer Kojo Kum, the Greater Accra Regional Security Council and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene and have the matter resolved before it throws the rather peaceful atmosphere of the area in chaos.

Adding his voice to that of Nii Tuaka II’s call for the cancellation of the intended inauguration, Paul Akpor Sowah, Secretary to the Council, noted that all they are asking for is to get the matter resolved before embarking on such move. He called for a level playing field in the resolution of the issue adding such a situation will go a long way to bring peace to the people of Teshie.

He said records have shown that the failure to adhere to traditional procedures in inaugurating Traditional Councils have led to chaos in some parts of the country. He continued that the people of Teshie are peace loving people who have love for each other and would not want such a thing to happen to them.

“We cannot allow such wrong way of doing things to be part of us. This is not us. If you look at Teshie, you will realized that we are not violent people. We hope that the registrar, Mr. Enoch Addo will do the right thing to save all of us from trouble” Mr. Sowah, the Council’s secretary remarked.
