A gang has burnt down an entire house at Krofrom in the Manhyia North Constituency.
The action is believed to be a reprisal after a member of the gang was hacked to death barely 24 hours ago.
Heavy security has been deployed to the area to maintain law and order, while the Ashanti Regional Police Commandmounts a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The death of the gang member, whose name has only been given as Candy, has created fear and panic among residents in Krofrom.
Reports suggest he was lured by his assailants to a quiet place where they stabbed him multiple times before he died on Wednesday, January 25.
On Friday, gang members of the deceased also set ablaze the family house of one Baffuor, who is suspected to be among the assailants.
Residents of Krofrom say such attacks are common in the area.
“Gangsterism is very common here. Reprisal attacks is rife. If you attack a gang, you have to prepare for a reprisal. That has been the norm here,”
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Afful Boakye Yiadom, who came to the scene with his men to assess the situation, pleaded with residents to give information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
“We are feverishly searching for them, you know them, you know where they are, provide information to the police,” DCOP Afful Boakye implored residents.
For now, relative calm has been restored to the area with the deployment of police to maintain law and order.
