A refuse-laden aboboyaa lost control and spilled its contents in the middle of the Joe Manu Junction at Tema Community 4, causing damage to a nearby salon car.
The incident occurred when the rider, reportedly moving at top speed, suffered brake failure, leading to the refuse being dumped across the busy junction before hitting the parked vehicle.
The owner of the tricycle is currently at the scene, clearing the waste and assisting with traffic flow.
Speaking to Plan B News’ Simon Arthur, the affected car owner recounted the terrifying moment:
“The rider was speeding and his brakes failed. I was in the car with my family, including a baby. We could have suffered serious casualties, but thank God we are alive.”
He expressed concern over the growing menace posed by aboboyaa riders on Ghana’s roads, describing their operations as a major safety risk to motorists and pedestrians.
“They are becoming a nuisance on our roads. If you’re not careful, you could easily be involved in an accident. Some of these riders even operate without functioning brakes,” he added.
The victim is calling on government authorities to urgently regulate aboboyaa operations, particularly enforcing safety standards and controlling the loads they carry, to prevent similar incidents.
