The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has elected Joseph Kojo Ofori as its new Presiding Member following a successful vote by Assembly Members.

The election took place during a meeting of the Assembly in Tema, in the Greater Accra Region, where members voted to choose a leader to preside over the Assembly’s meetings and guide its legislative business. Mr. Ofori secured the required support from members to assume the position, marking a significant step toward strengthening local governance in the metropolis.
As Presiding Member, Mr. Ofori will chair meetings of the Assembly, coordinate the work of its committees, and ensure that deliberations and decisions are conducted in accordance with local government regulations.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Ofori expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with all stakeholders to promote unity, transparency, and development in the metropolis. He emphasized the need for collaboration among Assembly Members, government appointees, and local authorities to address the developmental needs of communities across Tema.
The election of a Presiding Member is a key constitutional requirement for the effective functioning of metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies in Ghana, as the officeholder plays a central role in steering discussions and maintaining order during Assembly sittings.
Officials and members of the Assembly have expressed optimism that the new leadership will help advance development initiatives and improve service delivery within the Tema metropolis.
