The Tema Health Directorate has issued an alert to residents in the area over the rising cases of COVID-19. They are calling on the police to ensure strict compliance to all the COVID-19 preventive protocols.
Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, Public Health Officer, Priscilla Nittiful with the Tema Health Directorate says Tema has become a hotspot for the spread of the delta variant of the covid pandemic.
“I am appealing to residents to strictly and vigorously ensure the compliance with the protocols of social distancing, wearing of masks and use of sanitisers and adherence to directives of the President on funerals and social gatherings. I urge the Ghana Police Service to enforce strict adherence to the COVID-19 prevention protocols to curb the spread of the Delta variant. We are disturbed about the general disinterest and disregard for the COVID-19 safety protocols among members in various places and spaces,” she said
She also urged all stakeholders, including the media, religious bodies, professional bodies, private and public institutions and the public, not to relent in encouraging everyone to be cautious and vigilant, and to take urgent action in curbing the spread of the third wave of COVID-19 in Ghana.
Ghana is experiencing a third wave of COVDI-19 following an astronomical increase in the number of active cases.
From barely 1,000 active cases about two months ago, there are about 5,779 active cases with 1,084 total deaths as of September 5, 2021.
