Tema: Cargill Cut Sod For The Construction Of Six New Schools At Adjei Kojo

Cargill Ghana Limited, a Free Zone cocoa processing company in Tema has held a groundbreaking ceremony of the Cargill Schools project at Adjei Kojo in the Tema West Constituency on Friday July 9, 2021.

The project forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative, which was outlined in 2019 to build six schools to help improve the educational system in the country.

The project is executed in partnership with CARE international, comprising of three primary schools, two kindergarten blocks, and one Junior high school in the Adjei Kojo community close to Cargill’s processing facility. 

The Cargill schools project is estimated to provide 700 children with access to quality education from five project communities.

Present at the event was the Chief of staff of the Presidency, Hon. Frema Akosua Osei-Opare, Deputy Minister of Education Hon. John. Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Trade and Indutry Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, the US and Dutch Ambassadors Her Excellency Stephanie Sullivan and His Excellency Ron Strikker , the MP for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah and other dignitaries from the other five project Communities across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Cargill Ghana Limited, Aedo Van der Weij reiterated Cargill’s commitment to supporting access to quality education.

“We at Cargill believe education is really a key driver for prosperity, empowerment and economic sustainability. So this project will impact between 700 and 800 pupils. We are delighted to also contribute the foundation of education in Ghana”

The Deputy Minister of Education Hon. Ntim Fordjour highlighted the readiness of his office to deploy qualified teachers to the schools once they have been completed.

“In this year’s budget, the government has further committed substantial investment into infrastructure expansion but the duty of serving humanity is when all come together, particularly the private sector, to augment the efforts of the government. And that is why I am particularly excited about Cargill’s initiative of investing into education.
