Teachers to  benefit from new housing project- SONA

Teachers to  benefit from new housing project- SONA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a new housing initiative aimed at supporting teachers across the country, particularly those posted to rural and hard-to-reach communities.

Delivering his address on the floor of Parliament of Ghana on Thursday, February 27, 2026, the President announced that the project is designed to address accommodation challenges confronting newly posted teachers — a situation he noted has negatively impacted teaching and learning outcomes.

According to the President, access to decent housing remains a major concern in many underserved areas, discouraging some teachers from accepting or remaining at their duty posts. He explained that the newly introduced housing scheme seeks to provide safe and adequate accommodation, thereby improving security and overall welfare for educators.

President Mahama emphasized that the initiative will not only enhance the living conditions of teachers but also strengthen education delivery by ensuring stability within schools, especially in deprived communities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving conditions of service within the education sector, describing teachers as central to national development and deserving of sustained support.

Further details regarding the implementation framework and timelines for the housing project are expected in the coming weeks.
