Josephine Panyin Mensah, the lady at the center of the alleged false kidnapping and pregnancy case, has been granted bail by the Takoradi Habour Circuit Court in the Western Region.
She was released on GHS 50,000 bail with two sureties.
She pleaded not guilty to the counts of misleading a public officer and publishing false news with the intent to provoke fear and panic during her first court appearance today, September 27, 2021.
Despite police claims that she confessed to fabricating her kidnapping and pregnancy, she has not been charged.
Josephine has been in the news for weeks when it was revealed that she was kidnapped while out for a morning stroll with a nine-month-old pregnancy.
She was found mute, unkempt, and without any signs of the purported pregnancy in Axim, several kilometers away from Takoradi, where she was supposedly kidnapped.
Claims that she gave birth on the same day she was supposedly kidnapped and the baby was carried away by the kidnappers have been called into question, with Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah declaring on September 22, that the pregnancy was faked.
Following two medical examination, the police administration validated the minister’s assertion in a subsequent statement.
Some members of the public, including Josephine Panyin Mensah’s relatives and neighbors, however claims she was pregnant at the time she vanished.
