Suhum Government Hospital attacked over alleged negligence

Suhum Government Hospital attacked over alleged negligence
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

On the evening of June 26, 2024, at 7:30 pm, a family stormed the Suhum Government Hospital’s emergency ward, alleging negligence in the treatment of their loved one.

According to reports, Acquah Joe, a miner from Nsawam, was involved in a road accident at Boyefita in Suhum while traveling from Accra to Nsawam.

The accident occurred at 2:00 pm, and the police transported him to the hospital, where his family and friends gathered to visit him.

However, the family claims that the nurses failed to provide adequate care, and at 5:30 pm they were informed of his demise, which sparked their outrage and led them to attack the hospital.

The family vandalized the emergency ward’s entrance, injuring a nurse who was subsequently taken to the theater for surgery after suffering a leg injury from broken glass.

The family and friends of the deceased allege that the Suhum Government Hospital has a history of neglecting accident victims, leading to unnecessary losses.

They expressed frustration that Acquah Joe was talking and showed no signs of distress until his sudden demise.

The hospital staff, however, maintain that they did everything possible to save the young man’s life, but his condition deteriorated at 5:00 pm, and they were preparing to transfer him to Koforidua when he sadly passed away.

The situation was tense, but the police intervened to calm the situation.”
