John Ato Breboh, Deputy Chief Investigator at the Tema Sub-Regional Office of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has urged the public to stop spreading falsehoods, a form of sabotage which is liable to crime.
On Plan FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, Uncle Ato said that spreading rumors and falsehoods about others, cyber attacks, using AI to generate and share deep fake news, and disinformation are all ways people sabotage others digitally.
He emphasized that engaging in such behaviour is wicked and urged everyone to be responsible, as Section 179 of the Criminal Code 1960, Act 29, frowns upon damaging others’ property.
Uncle Ato further described the shutdown of Tema Oil Refinery in 2015 and the popular political ‘Showdown’ where a candidate was believed to have been sabotaged politically as forms of political sabotage that the law frowns upon.
Additionally, sabotage can take many forms, including personal and legal, and can have serious consequences for individuals and society as a whole.
”People engage in sabotage for a variety of complex and multifaceted reasons, including personal gain, jealousy, or to save face done to harm others’ reputations, manipulate public opinion, or gain political advantage, he added.”
