Advise has been given to all market women across the country to desist from the behavioral attitude of turning market places into a kitchen that has been the rationale behind some market fire outbreaks in the country.
Engaging some fire service officers from Tema Region on Plan B Fm morning show “NKOSUONSEM” on the topic “PREVENTION OF MARKET FIRES” ADOII Nanacy Amaka together with ADOII William klebeti and ADOII Saviour Azugu told the host Ohene Addo that illegal electricity connection, wiring and unprofessional/unsafe use of electrical gadgets also has played a roll in some market fire outbreaks they added.
However, it is believed that the narrative can change when traders in the various markets and their assistants go the extra mile to ensure the fires do not start in the first place.
Many market women or traders cook in their shops or sheds because they virtually spend the whole day there trying to eke out a living.
Some also use electrical appliances such as fridges, television sets, and other household electronic and electrical gadgets while others have also made their shops their homes.
Unfortunately, although electricity is used most of the time, some of the markets are not properly wired or if they are, inferior or substandard materials are used, which makes the use of many electrical appliances dangerous.
