ADO1 William S.K Klebeti, Fire Safety Officer at the Tema Regional Headquarters, Safety Department, has emphasized the importance of citizens taking steps to protect themselves from kitchen fires.
In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, he explained that taking steps to protect themselves from kitchen fires helps maintain the ratio of firefighters to citizens, which is currently very low, with one firefighter protecting almost every 5,000 citizens.
ADO1 Klebeti stressed that taking preventive measures to avoid kitchen fires is crucial, not only to ensure citizens’ own safety but also to protect firefighters who risk their lives to save others. By taking simple steps such as being mindful of cooking temperatures, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and having working smoke alarms, citizens can significantly reduce the risk of kitchen fires.
In addition to taking preventive measures, ADO1 Klebeti also shared a crucial tip for what to do in case of a fire emergency. If someone’s clothes catch fire, he advises them to drop to the ground and roll to extinguish the flames. This simple yet effective technique can help prevent the fire from escalating and causing further harm.
“Remember, every second counts in a fire emergency,” ADO1 Klebeti said. “Stay calm, drop to the ground, and roll to put out the flames. Let’s stay safe and prevent fires from causing harm.
