A community health nurse with the Tema General Hospital and NABITA Hospital, Madam Sabina Nkrumah has warned the general public to away from or reject rusty and punched processed canned foods from shops and markets to avoid stomach cancer.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s weekend health show APOMUDEN FIE hosted by Ohene Addo, Madam Sabina explained that, over-processed rusty, and punched canned foods stomach are highly contagious, and frequent consumption of such foods could lead to stomach cancer.
She said cancer or gastric cancer cells grow out of control in the stomach.
It starts in the stomach lining and progresses slowly and if left untreated, can form a mass (tumor) and grow deeper into your stomach walls. The tumor may spread to nearby organs like your liver and pancreas.
She stressed that anyone can develop stomach cancer, but certain factors may increase the risk and one is more likely to get stomach cancer if he or she is above 50 years old males are more prone to stomach cancer the females, too much salt and alcohol intake could also cause stomach cancer.
She continued that, starvation unhealthy eating, and untreated stomach ulcers can also cause stomach cancer.
She said stomach cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and stomach cancer doesn’t typically cause symptoms during the early stages but the most common early signs of stomach cancer often unexplained weight loss and stomach pain don’t usually show up until the cancer is more advanced and symptoms of stomach cancer may include, Loss of appetite, trouble swallowing, Fatigue or weakness, Nausea, and vomiting, Unexplained weight loss, Heartburn and indigestion, Black stool (poop) or vomiting blood, Feeling bloated or gassy after eating, stomach pain, often above your belly button, feeling full even after eating a small meal or snack.
