Sports key to Ghana’s development agenda – Vice President sssures stakeholders

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has paid a working visit to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

The Vice President was met by a strong group of dignitaries headlined by Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, Chief Director of the Sports Ministry, Wilhelmina Asamoah, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and Deputy National Sports Authority Director General Gideon Hammond.

During her visit, the Vice President was briefed on updates on initiatives the Sports Ministry is undertaking to develop the sector including clearing almost a million dollars in “overdue salaries” to members of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars.

“This Ministry is playing its role… and I’m very impressed about the report you have given and I want to congratulate all of you” Vice President Jane Opoku-Agyemang said.

Ghana has qualified to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be co-hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico and the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L with England, Croatia and Panama.

On his part, Sports Minister Kofi Adams spoke about development in the sector including fronting the passage of the Sports Fund and creating a Sports Police Unit.

On her part, the Sports Ministry Chief Director, Wilhelmina Asamoah, was grateful to the Vice President for the courtesy call and assured her that the Ministry will continue to strive for great change.
