The Office of the Special Prosecutor has extended invitation to the rejected Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Juaben Municipal Assembly, Alex Sarfo Kantanka to explain further, his involvement in a bribery allegation against him.
The Special Prosecutor, Kiss Agyebeng’s invitation to the rejected MCE nominee was contained in a letter where the latter is described as “a person necessary for the investigations.”
“You may be accompanied by counsel of your choice,” portion of the letter to the rejected nominee read.
The Special Prosecutor indicated that his office has started investigations into allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences (especially corruption and intimidation in respect of a public election) particularly in relation to the nominee’s nomination and confirmation or otherwise as the Municipal Chief Executive of Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
A video of Mr. Kantanka which went viral, according to the Special Prosecutor, is the base for his invitation. The rejected nominee is seen demanding monies he allegedly paid to the assembly members to motivate them to vote for him.
The rejected nominee has been granted bail after he was arrested by the police for allegedly bribing some Assembly members to vote for his confirmation as the Municipal Chief Executive of the area.
He was subsequently granted bail while police continued with their investigation into the matter.
