Son, 19, ‘upset over his upbringing’; shoots parents and is disappointed they survive

Son, 19, ‘upset over his upbringing’; shoots parents and is disappointed they survive

A teenager who was “upset over his upbringing” allegedly shot his parents just hours after Mother’s Day – and was disappointed they both survived.

Jeremiah Estel Blair, 19, from Arizona, “had been planning the attack for years”, according to police, after he was accused of shooting his parents inside their home on Monday morning. The pair were rushed to hospital where they were treated for their wounds.

The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, admitted to the sick shooting and confessed that it was years in the making after he was “upset over his upbringing.” Chandler Police said: “[Blair] reported being upset over his upbringing and he felt he was not treated as he should have been as a child. [Blair] stated he had been planning for years to kill [the victims].”

Court documents state Blair had been planning to carry out the shooting on Mother’s Day but instead waited just hours later. The suspect’s dad came downstairs at around 5.30am on Monday to be met with his son holding a gun and a video camera to record the shooting. Blair told his dad about “this day coming” before he shot him in the forearm.

The dad quickly ran back to the bedroom, but his mum came out of the room and was shot in the chest. According to police, in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, he was happy when he believed his mum was going to die.

“Defendant showed remorse for the fact that his parents will live,” court documents stated. “Defendant knew [his] actions [were] wrong, but still attempted to shoot and kill his parents.”

Police said that both parents were hospitalised in stable condition and did not require surgery. Blair said he told police that he knew what he had done was “wrong.” He is facing two counts of first-degree attempted murder. He remains in custody.
