Nationwide Curfew Declared In Sierra Leone After Unknown Men Attempt To Break Into Military Armory

Sierra Leone has lifted an indefinite nationwide curfew imposed on Sunday after armed men attacked a military barrack and prisons in Freetown.

The unidentified gunmen also attempted to break into an armoury in the capital, Freetown, the government said on Sunday.

A new night curfew will begin from 21:00 to 06:00 local time every day “until further notice”, the acting national network coordinator of the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) in Sierre Leone, Dominic Andrew Boima informed Asaase 99.5 Accra on Monday (27 November).

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Boima said calm has been restored after the leaders of the attack were arrested.

“The country is calm including Freetown and the curfew has been lifted and readjusted a little bit. So, curfew starts 9pm daily to 6am in the morning until further notice… people are going about their normal duties,” Boima said.

“The president spoke to everyone re-assuring Sierra Leoneans that the country will be stabilised and those who were involved in the incident will be brought to book. So, there is calm and we hope it will continue for the rest of the week,” Boima said.
