A nursing mother and her baby have both been confirmed dead in Krobo Odumasi after they were crashed to death by a speeding sprinter driver. The deceased, Yaa Ansah and her seven months old baby were about to cross over the road at the Nyameso Junction; a junction that leads out of Krobo Odumasi to Akosombo when she was knocked down to death.
Eyewitness Abigail Saki, a friend and colleague trader of Yaa Ansah, who was walking with her on the road, narrated that, the speeding sprinter driver was the one at fault not her friend. Yaa was not crossing the road when the accident happened.
We would have crossed the road but that would have happened upon reaching the next junction; Atijo Junction. She was leading me and I was walking behind her with an interval of 10 to sixteen feet.
The sprinter driver was dodging something; I don’t know what he was dodging but he moved out of the road and drove on the pedestrian pavement which we were walking on. He crashed Yaa on the road and drove away without stopping, Abigail narrated.
The white coloured sprinter minibus, according to the narration of Abigail Saki, was heading towards Akosombo when the accident happened. Abigail could not give a valid description of the car but all she could state was, the car was a sprinter with a last number ’20’, which means it was registered in 2020.
Whether the car was Mercedes, Dodge, DW, Ford, or RAM sprinter minibus, Abigail could not identify. The deceased, Yaa Ansah and her seven-month-old daughter died without making a sound, Abigail hinted.
She died with the baby. She fell on the coal tar after the accident and crashed her head to the road. The baby couldn’t have been able to be identified if someone was to identify her, because the car crashed the baby from the back of her mother, Abigail added in tears.
The police of Krobo Odumasi is on the scene of the accident helping with relocating the body to the mortuary while investigations are yet to begin. Though official investigations are yet to begin but, the police has already set roadblocks to arrest the driver before he leaves Akosombo.
Any sprinter minibus leaving Akosombo main road to Accra will be stopped for inspection. We believe the driver if heading towards Accra, cannot invade Akosombo and we will use that to arrest him, Officer Razak Mohammed of Krobo Odumasi police hinted on their plan on catching the driver if he was truly heading towards Akosombo without making a branch.
