Ghanaian dancehall act, Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale has been remanded for a week together with three of his crew members after their first appearance in the Accra Circuit court.
The musician was arrested after turning himself in on Tuesday, October 19, 2921, following the false publication of the news of his death on social media.
According to him, he deemed this act necessary as a medium to stop men of God from giving doom prophesies and causing undue fear and panic in people especially the celebrities.
A man of God, Bishop Stephen Kwesi Appiah, had beforehand prophesized about Shatta Wale’s death on Tuesday, October 18, 2021. Prophet Appiah, during a radio interview with an Accra base radio station noted that it was going to be similar to South Africa reggae star, Lucky Dube’s death; robbery turned murder on the said date. In line with proving that the prophesy, was fake and a way to discourage other religious leaders from towing these lines, he pulled up a publicity stunt as though the prophesy has manifested to bring to the notice of his followers and the world at large that these actions of some men of God must be condemned.
He was arrested together with his accomplices; Eric Venator, Kojo Owusu and Idris Yusif. They have all been remanded into police custody for a week as they pleaded not guilty of all the charges leveled against them.
In a video circulating on social media, Shatta Wale and the three accomplices are seen led into a police waiting van. He could be seen and heard shouting “for life is for life” in response to persons not seen in the video who earlier shouted “SM for life”. Just before he was whisked away Shatta Wale is heard shouting on top of his voice that he wants to experience jail life
The four are expected to reappear before the Accra Circuit Court on October 26, 2021 while investigations are still ongoing.
