The Western Region of Ghana has for the past few days been mourning the sad explosion that happened at Apiatse. Already, many persons have been rendered homeless with others giving up the ghost. As residents in the region are contemplating on how to conclude the rescue mission, another accident has occurred on the main road from Takoradi to Tarkwa.
The accident which happened at Kyerekyewere, a community close to Tarkwa involves a Hyundai minibus that was heading towards Tarkwa. The vehicle had loaded traders from Agona Nkwanta, they were conveying goods bags of onions, tomatoes, pepper, and many others to the main market at Bonsa in the Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality of the Western Region.
A few minutes to Kyerekyerwere, the driver came face to face with a heavy truck that was moving at a top speed. The truck driver had taken over the entire double lane making the Hyundai minibus driver confused. The heavy truck was moving in his direction and in order to save the traders he decided to move out of the road.
The vehicle hit a huge tree causing it to damage beyond repairs. The traders who were in the vehicle started shouting for help, some of them developed minor injuries with the others leaving the vehicle unhurt. Fortunately, no deaths were recorded from the accident but their goods got spilled.
One of the traders could be seen sitting helplessly trying to pick up the pieces. According to her, it was the mercy of God that saved them from colliding with the ruck. She adds that the truck driver refused to even stop after causing the accident.
The community where the accident happened has been a hot spot for road crashes for many years. Serious accidents have happened there and the police sometimes mount barriers to check speeding drivers. For some time now, accidents on that particular spot have reduced but it appears the police must intensify their presence once again.
