A security crisis looms in the Yendi municipality in the Nothern Region, with the police force reportedly frustrated by the alleged interference in its operations by the overlord of the area, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II.
Last week’s near-lynching of the Divisional Police Commander, ACP Peter Akokora Ayirezang by some irate youth in the area, which was allegedly instructed by the overlord of the area, has set the police force on edge, as law enforcement activities in the area have weakened amid interferences from traditional forces.
Reports reaching Tema-based Plan B FM, confirm the recent state of discontent within the Yendi police force in the thick of concerns of frequent meddling with its operations.
The already wounded institutional pride of the Yendi police force was further maimed by the Yaa Naa’s order for ACP Ayirezang to leave the township, for not granting his demand for the release of an apprehended law offender.
As the 2020 general elections draw closer, it is crucial the Yendi situation is defused.
