The NDC’s Joseph Yammin led Operation Recover All looted assets has again intercepted supposed government fertilizers in the house of Adansi North District Chief Executive in Fomena in the Ashanti Region through intelligence operation.
The Adansi North DCE, Eric Kwaku Kusi who spoke to our news team confirmed the fertilizers were brought to his house for safe keeping by the Member of Parliament for Fomena Constituency who doubles as Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah two days before elections 2024.
He said “my MP told me the fertilizers were brought for his campaign activities, but it came late. So, he told me to keep it in my house after the elections he will come for it and later distribute it to the farmers. I called the MP so he spoke with the NDC security team that came here” he explained.
According to the NDC Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer, Osman Nabali, the same intelligence that led them to the interception of over 10,000 fertilizers in an uncomplicated building at Sokoban and Danyame residential areas last week.
Osman Nabali described the hoarding of the government-supplied fertilizers as unfortunate.
The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, who spoke with the team on December 23 during a phone interview, confirmed the fertilizers belong to him, but declined to give further details.
According to Nabali, the fertilizers, purchased by the outgoing government to support farmers and reduce the cost of food production, were found stored at the said location just days before the elections.
“We visited the site and confirmed that the fertilizers were hidden there. It raises questions about whether the house belongs to him, or another individual connected to him,” Nabali stated.
The NDC youth leader expressed disappointment over the alleged act, which he claims is part of a broader scheme by individuals in the outgoing administration to sabotage the incoming government.
“Instead of distributing these fertilizers to farmers as planned, they’ve hoarded them to sell at exorbitant prices later. This is a deliberate attempt to make the new government suffer,” Nabali alleged.
He further criticized the move, saying that it undermines efforts to support farmers and provide affordable food for Ghanaians.
“The government spent huge sums to acquire these fertilizers to boost agriculture, but some people are prioritizing personal gain over national interest. Farmers are being denied resources meant to help them succeed,” he said.
Nabali appealed to authorities to take swift action, urging the incoming administration to ensure accountability and protect government resources. He also highlighted the need to investigate similar practices across the country.
“These actions are unacceptable, especially from someone in a leadership position. This isn’t just an NDC issue; it’s about protecting Ghana’s interests,” he concluded.
