The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Ridge Police Station in Accra, is investigating the circumstances under which the name and signature of one of the deputy directors at the Ministry of Health was used in duping a Health Tutor at Jirapa Nursing College, in the Upper West Region.
The probe, police sources familiar with the case say, follows an official complaint by Dr. Abraham Donkor when he became of a fraudulent activity involving an unknown person using his identity to defraud one Mark Bonnir.
“I request that this case be thoroughly investigated and that the responsible individual be brought to justice for defrauding Mr. Bonnir and using my identity for such criminal activities,” Dr Donkor charged the police.
The New Crusading GUIDE gathered that on Monday, 27 May 2024, one Emmanuel Mwini and Health Tutor at Jirapa Nursing College who had been duped drew Dr. Donkor attention to the face Mr Bonnir, had been defrauded of forty-four 44,000 Ghana cedis.
Mr. Bonnir’s report was that one Alex Ziemah, forwarded a letter to him that had been edited from an original document signed by Dr. Kwesi Asabir, Human Resource Director, which edited letter fraudulently used Abraham Donkor (Ph.D.), to deceive Mr. Bonnir.
He intimated that “Upon receiving this report, I immediately went to the Chief Director’s Office to inform him. However, due to the serious nature of this fraud and the misuse of my name, I believe it is necessary to seek a detailed investigation by the Ghana Police Service to identify and apprehend the person responsible because this is not the first time that such a person’s misuse of my name has happened.”
Interestingly, since the case was reported to the Chief Director, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, nothing has been done about it. Rather, this paper learnt that the man who had fallen victim to the fraud was reportedly handed over to a man who allegedly introduced himself as coming from the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).
He was subsequently escorted out of the Ministry of Health premises without any further action.
Meanwhile, when this paper contacted Mr. Bonnir on a follow up to the case, he said he would revert but had not called back as at the time of going to press. The head of HR however could not pick his calls and a text message to his phone was never answered.
Stay tune for the story has just begun.
