Prophet Ebenezer Dunamis, Head Pastor of the Army of God Revival Centre, has sparked debate with his assertion that making excuses can be justified when one’s integrity is at stake. Speaking on Plan B FM’s “Nyansapo Fie” programme with host Odiamono Kwaku Gyimah, he suggested that whilst habitual excuse-making can impede personal growth, it can sometimes serve as a necessary shield against embarrassment and reputational damage.
“It is better to save oneself from embarrassment and disgrace with an excuse rather than risk damaging one’s hard-earned reputation over a task one is aware they cannot perform,” he said.
However, Lady Marilyn Abeka-Daniels, Adjunct Lecturer at UNIMAC-IJ, countered that excuse-making can hinder progress and that accountability is essential.
“Rather than making excuses, focus on personal growth and improvement,” she advised. “Every failure requires an explanation, and learning from mistakes is crucial to overcoming challenges.”
The differing perspectives have ignited discussion on the role of excuse-making in personal and professional development.
