Sam George, the Member of Parliament (MP) has stated that he will not hesitate to haul Prof. Kwasi Prempeh, Executive Director for the Centre Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana, before Parliament’s Privileges Committee for what the MP refer to as insulting remarks against Members of Parliament.

Expressing his displeasure over remarks the Professor made during he, the Professor’s made during his presentation before Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday, November 11, 2021, Sam George noted that such acts are not the type of comments MPs will readily accept.

Prof. Kwasi Prempah, a former law lecturer had expressed misgivings stating that the promotion of the Proper Human Sexual Rights Bill was a march towards totalitarianism and populism.

He continued that the thoughts expressed in the Bill are not original of the proponents since such discussions have been ongoing in various quarters for some time.

Prof. Kwasi Prempeh’s comment did not sit well with some Members of Parliament which include the Prampram MP, one of the sponsors of the bill, who threatened to haul the Professor before the Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

Continuing, the MP, Sam George who is the lead sponsor of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, described Prof. Prempeh’s comments as insulting and an attempt to mislead the House.

“You don’t lie to a Committee of Parliament. If he did say on tape, during his submission, which we heard him say, that these thoughts were not the original thoughts but the thoughts of other people we were representing, we will drag him to Parliament,” Sam George remarked during an interview with an Accra base radio station over the matter.

The Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament on Thursday, November 11, 2021 began the first of a series of public hearings on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.

The Bill which is expected to be passed will criminalise Lesbianism, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and their related activities.

The Committee has so far received over 140 memos regarding the Bill with public hearing on the memos received is expected to last for 15 weeks.
