Anthony Sam-Anoom, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicator for Tema Central Constituency and Assemblyman for Republic Electoral Area, has expressed sympathy for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, predicting his reputation will be tarnished when the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) brings him to justice.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show with host Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, Sam-Anoom said, “All government appointees must be ready to face accountability. Honouring the invite of law enforcement agencies doesn’t necessarily imply guilt or imprisonment.”
He urged Ofori-Atta to meet the OSP voluntarily to avoid embarrassment.
The OSP has accused Ken Ofori-Atta of:
– Agyapa Royalties Deal: Causing financial loss to the state through the Agyapa Royalties deal
– Conflict of Interest: Engaging in conflict of interest
– Failure to Declare Interests: Failing to declare his interests
– Procurement Breach: Breaching the Public Procurement Act
– Procurement Without Approval: Engaging in procurement without approval
Meanwhile, Richard Yaw Aning, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team member for Tema Central Constituency, criticised the manner in which the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) under Raymond Archer handles people, saying it seems like persecution.
He praised Dr. Bryan Acheampong for granting bail to NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Chairman Wontumi is facing allegations of:
– Money Laundering: Alleged involvement in money laundering and car theft, with international authorities from the US and Canada collaborating with Ghanaian agencies
– EXIM Bank Loan: Accused of diverting a $10 million maize farming loan from Ghana EXIM Bank under the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative
– Galamsey Controversy: Akonta Mining Company, owned by Wontumi, is implicated in illegal mining activities in the Aboi and Tano Nimiri Forest Reserves
Aning added, “We appreciate the support shown to our regional chairman. The law should apply equally to all, and if found wanting, everyone should face the consequences.”
