The host of Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM, Nana Yaw Abrompah has passionately appealed to the minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson for banning Saiko activities in Ghana waters leading to high prices of fish and job losses in the country but allowing foreigners to import fish into the country whilst the local fishing industry is left to rot.
Abrompah said, “I give you all the respect, but i know this is not the first nor the third time you have received a letter to that effect, but if you are indeed a caring mother do something about the Saiko issue, you have not been fair to Ghanaians after all these you will close the sea to deprived local fishermen of fishing and allowing foreigners to fish secretly is nonsense” he fumed
He also urged journalists in the country to be bold and tell the truth when they get the opportunity to talk about matters affecting the progress of the country and its citizens.
The Tema West NPP communication member Michael Bohyeba Nyame passionately joined the issue by calling on the minister Hon. Hawa Koomson to as a matter of urgency find solutions to the Saiko issue,
“I don’t see any justifiable reason in banning the saiko whilst you allow the Europeans to bring in their expired goods into the country with authorities doing nothing but we are rather fighting our people”.
We need to speak truth to power, my government is in power but if it is true per the explanation of the man ‘Mr. Justice Raymond Prah’ depriving the local people of their livelihood, then they should take a second look at it, what happened that in our first term, you did not touch it but you are doing this in the second term”?
The Tema West NDC communication team member Tetteh Christian also joined the conversation by saying we must look at some of the issues confronting the country with technical eyes per the explanation from Mr. Justice Raymond Prah means the Saiko is a whole economy on its own which needs rapid attention because it a national security issue,
“sometimes when we are talking, its not because of our political color but to the benefit of all Ghanaians. Scrapping a whole industry makes me sad as a Ghanaian, sometimes some of the decision taken by our leaders is a clear indication that they do not have the country and its citizens at heart.”
