Sack Governor of Bank of Ghana – NPP man to Akufo-Addo

A Communication team member for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Tema Central Constituency, Richard Anning has called on president Akufo-Addo to sack the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison for his role in the current hardship in the country.

According to him, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana is responsible for the stabilization of the country’s currency which in the opinion of Richard Anning , Dr. Ernest Addison has completely failed at.

His comments come after a task force was set up by the Central Bank Governor to clamp down on illegal operators in the forex market.

The Governor of the Bank, Dr. Ernest Addison, announced this during the 118th monetary policy statement on Monday, May 27, 2024.

The move is aimed at tackling the operations of illegal operators in the foreign exchange market and promoting transparency in the market.

Reacting to this on Plan B FM’s morning show dubbed ’Nkosuo Nsem’ , Richard Anning believes Addison’s handling of the economy has been disastrous.

“Why should we sit in our country and allow foreigners to come and determine how to run our country for us. Foreigners go about pricing goods in dollars with impunity. The governor of the Central Bank with the help of some heads of banking institutions have allowed illegal operators in the forex market to thrive and are determining exchange rates which has resulted in the significant depreciation of the local currency” he stated

He was quick to add that, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo should sack the Governor of the Central Bank for incompetence.

“I have always maintained that Dr. Ernest Addison should be sacked immediately. I’m very much annoyed to hear that he has now realized the need to form a task force to stem illegal forex markets. The situation could have been dealt with if he had acted swiftly” he added

He also took a swipe at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) in the Tema Region for looking on unconcerned and allowing Nigerians and other foreign nationals to operate illegal forex markets in the Municipality.

He called on the security agencies to step up and deal with these illegality going on in the country.
