Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has criticised persons who view him and fellow former captain Andre Dede Ayew as rivals or believe they are at odds with each other.
He believes Andre’s perceptions are influenced by those around him.
In a recent Instagram Live session, he dismissed claims of any rift between them, attributing any misunderstanding to the influence of people in Andre’s circle.
“Andre is a good man and when he is playing, he is loyal and passionate but he has people he surrounds himself with that tell him stuff,” he stated.
He further stated that Andre is not the type who engages in such behaviour, but some Ghanaians, who enjoy fueling drama and negativity, are the ones perpetuating this notion of rivalry.
“He’s not one, I know; so you people are the ones who bring the issue. What do you want to see between me and Andre?”
The former captain also spoke fondly of the former captain and how their relationship is saying:
“When Andre sees me, he has that genuine love for me so much but before he’s been brainwashed, that is what it is. Which has brought the so-called rivalry”
This stems from the rumoured struggle between Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew over the captaincy during the 2019 AFCON and the controversies surrounding it.
However, Baby Jet, as he is widely known, clarified that they are friends, not enemies.
