The third edition of the Plan B FM Inter- Community Soccer Gala ended successfully at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex at Tema New Town on Sunday September 15, 2024 with Rising Stars of Sakumono emerging as winners.
They beat Blessed Street Boys (BSB), of Tema Community four 4-2 on penalties after an electrifying finale game which ended 0-0 after regulation time.
They walked away with a giant trophy, medals and a cash prize of GHC10,000, and a set of jerseys.
Thirty-two teams participated in the four-week tournament which kicked off on 17th August 2024 with splendid performances from the teams.
The 1st runner-up, BSB received GHC5,000 ,medals and a set of jerseys. The third placed team Golden Stars also got GHC 3,000 and medals.
Both teams remained resolute in defense to avoid conceding a goal, resulting in penalty kicks to decide the winner.
Hundreds of fans trooped to the venue to watch the finals after weeks of exciting football tournament.
Goalkeeper Joojo Rockson of BSB was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament, Issah of BSB also won the top scorer award with 4 goals whiles Fabregas also from BSB clinch the best player of the tournament.
He was given a GHC1,000 from the Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA), Chairman Mr. Kojo Fianoo for his sterling performances throughout the tournament.
Volta Professionals were handed out the fair play award for good display of sportsmanship. All thirty-two teams received footballs each for participating in the competition.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the competition, Chief Executive Officer Of Free Minds Communication Limited, owners of Plan B FM, Mrs. Comfort Aniagyei said the competition was aimed at bringing the communities together through the tournament.
She expressed appreciation to all the teams. She also said it was not only to unify the teams but to harness great but hidden talents and to encourage them to contribute effectively to the development of football in the country.
Madam Comfort Aniagyei expressed a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association to fix the dwindling fortunes of Ghana football and the deplorable state of sports facilities in the country.
Nii Adjetey Agbo II, Tema Mankralo and acting President of the Tema Traditional Council thanked Plan B FM for organizing such a wonderful competition and also pleaded with the management of Free Minds Communication to consider hosting the next edition of the competition again at Tema New Town.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA), Chairman Mr. Kojo Fianoo also bemoans the sorry state of Ghana football especially in the Tema Metropolis. He called for urgent steps to be taken to address the fortunes of football in Ghana.
He appealed to the management of Plan B FM to initiate similar competition for women to help improve women’s football in Ghana.
The FA boss for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Dasebre Adu thanked the management of Plan B FM for such a brilliant initiative to unearth and develop football talents.
The ceremony witnessed performances from hip-life duo Keche who thrilled fans with some of their hit songs such as ‘sokode’ , aluguintugui’, pressure among others.
