Richard Anning questions accountability of public officers over neglected infrastructure

2024 Election: Anyone who misbehaves would be shot dead – NPP’s Richard Anning
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Richard Anning has raised concerns about what he describes as the negligence of some public officials in the discharge of their duties, questioning their level of accountability in addressing public infrastructure challenges.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebaanosen programme hosted by Ohene Kennah, Mr. Anning said revenue officers often fail to identify and report damaged gutters within their areas of operation, delaying the necessary interventions by the relevant authorities.

He also expressed concern over the conduct of some building inspectors, alleging that they sometimes overlook faulty or broken electricity poles despite the serious risks they pose to public safety.

According to him, public officials entrusted with such responsibilities have a duty not only to identify infrastructure defects but also to promptly report them to the government or the appropriate institutions for immediate action.

Mr. Anning lamented that many officers act as though these responsibilities fall outside their mandate, showing little urgency in addressing hazards that directly affect communities.

He therefore called on public officers to be more proactive, diligent and committed to their responsibilities, stressing that greater accountability is essential to improving public infrastructure and safeguarding lives and property.
