Richard Anning calls for building permit compliance and affordable housing

Richard Anning criticises NDC’s handling of teachers and education sector

Richard Anning of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged property owners to obtain the necessary building permits before commencing construction, stressing that compliance with building regulations is essential to reducing building collapses.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN show hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Anning explained that some people become impatient while waiting for permits and proceed with construction without authorisation, adding that some even buy paint and write on their buildings themselves to create the impression that officials have marked the structures to stop construction.

He emphasised that technical professionals have the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure buildings meet the required standards, urging property owners to seek permission and follow the proper procedures to help prevent building collapses.

On housing affordability, Mr. Anning argued that the government does not determine the cost of building, making the overall housing process difficult for many people.

He further criticised the government’s approach to housing, stating that houses built by the state are often sold to people who can afford them. He called on the government to set an example by providing rental accommodation at reasonable rates to encourage private landlords and landladies to make their rents more affordable.
