Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Hassan Tampuli, believes the death of the eight Ghanaians should give the president a reason to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining activities in the country.
Also, he is of the view that instead of amending the LI 246 (2), the president must revoke it entirely.
He holds the view that there has been too much talk about galamsey in the country, and now is the time to take decisive action that will help arrest the situation.
“The best legacy that we can give to the memory of these fallen heroes, led by the president of the republic, is to revoke LI246 (2)—mining in forest reserves.
Secondly, the president should declare a state of emergency as soon as possible. There has been so much talk about galamsey; I think we don’t need to discuss galamsey again. Thirdly, there should be a parliamentary inquiry to establish the cause of the crash and make appropriate recommendations to forestall such an occurrence in the future,” he stated on Accra-based Joy News.
Eight people who were detailed for the launch of responsible cooperative mining and skills development program in Obuasi lost their lives after the helicopter they were travelling in crashed and caught fire.
Ghana has been grieving since August 6, 2025, after the news was confirmed by the Chief of Staff.
To many, their death should influence and bring an end to illegal mining in Ghana because they died in their drive to fight the menace.
