President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Edward Akrong is prompting government to revisit certain aspects of the law concerning fees charged at Ghana’s ports.
These charges such as State Ware House Rent and Interest charges are as a result of the delays in clearance of goods.
To him, these laws, Legislative Instruments (LI-1315) established since 1985 were outmoded and serve as a stumbling block to the growth of the industry.
Mr. Akrong who made this passionate call in an interview with Plan- B indicated that he does not see why Customs are charging for goods that have not been stored in State Ware House but private ware house called Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and urged government to review the law to reduce cost of doing business.
