Residents raise concern as man with cannula, diapers found abandoned at Achimota

Residents raise concern as man with cannula, diapers found abandoned at Achimota

Residents around Achimota New Station have raised alarm over a young man believed to be in his early 20s who was found lying prostrate on the pavement, apparently in need of urgent medical attention.

As of 9:00 a.m. on January 19, 2026, at the time of filing this report, the man was still lying on the right side of the pavement immediately upon entering the Achimota New Station.

Eyewitnesses say he was wearing diapers and had a cannula attached, leading to speculation that he may have fled from a hospital.

According to residents, the man has been at the location since the previous day. Concerned individuals at the scene said they reported the matter to the police but despite responding to the call, officers allegedly left without offering assistance or providing any explanation to residents.

Efforts to reach the Ghana Ambulance Service have also reportedly been unsuccessful.

Speaking exclusively to the GhanaWeb news team, a resident whose office is close to the scene, Dr Kweku Akuffo, expressed deep concern over the situation.

“When I arrived here, one of the women who lives around said he had been sleeping there since yesterday. We called the police but after they came, they left without a word. We also called the ambulance service but there has been no response. Clearly, this man needs medical attention and we are calling for urgent help,” he said.

Dr Akuffo further described the situation as distressing, noting that the man’s condition could worsen if immediate action is not taken.

“A human being is lying prostrate on the pavement to the right as soon as you enter Achimota New Station, needing medical assistance. He is wearing diapers and has a cannula. None of the institutions responsible are responding. Help, please,” another eye witness said.

He added that while it would have been inappropriate to take photographs, the situation remains dire.

“He has been lying there since last night, I am told. If he is not attended to immediately, he could die,” Dr Akuffo warned.

Residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene swiftly to prevent a possible tragedy.
