Some residents of Ayeh Kokuoso in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region have raised red flag over ongoing sand-winning activities on their farmlands.
Speaking to Yaw Asare a resident and a farmer at Ayeh Kokuoso on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM, he told Nana Yaw Abrompah that, the sand-winning activities have been going on for weeks and is destroying farmlands and crops which are not due for harvest.
“The activity is destroying our crops that we acquired loans from the bank to cultivate the farmlands. Sand winning activities has destroyed the topsoil which is suitable for planting”
He further explained that, because the sand winners are using heavy trucks, all the roads in the area are badly damaged making the road unmotorable. No vehicle is willing to ply the road because of the bad nature so when are you sick, there is no vehicle to take you to the hospital” he added.
He said, the youth and the farmers in Ayeh Kokuoso confronted the chief and his elders in the town for an explanation of the ongoing sand winning but to their surprise, they were told that they know nothing about it but the authorization may come from kyebi Okyehene’s place.
Again, they alleged that the District Chief Executive of Ayensuano District Assembly Hon Josephine Ansah Nkoom has been sending people from the Assembly to collect taxes from the sand winners.
On this allegation, we tried to get the DCE for her side of the issue but all attempts proved futile.
